“American citizens don’t want unelected billionaires with their private data, all their tax information, their Medicare healthcare records. … What do they want it for? The goals of a billionaire are not the same as the goals of the average American citizen. He has other conflicting interests,” Sen. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, said Thursday on the Senate floor. 

Slotkin argued that Musk, whose companies hold billions worth of government contracts and who has business interests in China, should have to follow the law and file a publicly available financial disclosure after CBS News reported Friday that Musk won’t have to.

“This is how we ensure no conflict of interest ― as in making decisions that help your own interests instead of those of your adopted country,” Slotkin posted on X. “The China interests alone raise real questions.”
